The challenge: proving rich content works in Australia

The Australian ecommerce market is growing fast. It reached 37 billion dollars in value in 2024 and is projected to rise by another 21 billion dollars by 2029. With 78% of Australians researching products online before they buy in store, the product detail page has never mattered more.

Our partners set us a clear challenge: is rich content as effective in Australia as it is across the rest of the global Flixmedia network? To answer it, we put the numbers to the test.

The test: 83 days, 31,007 shoppers

Working with leading ecommerce retailers across Australia, Flixmedia ran an A/B test of rich content, on versus off, across a range of brands and products. Over an 83 day period we analysed the behaviour of 31,007 shoppers to measure the impact of Hotspots on add to cart performance.

The result was decisive. The variant without Hotspots achieved a 13.5% add to cart rate. The version featuring Hotspots reached 16.9%, a 25.1% uplift. Hotspots turn the retailer hero image into an interactive experience, and shoppers responded.

Shopper analysis findings

Rich content delivered through Flixmedia lifted add to cart rates consistently across every category we tested. The strongest gains came from the categories where shoppers most want detail before they buy.

Uplift by category

Phone and mobiles saw a 33.0% uplift. Computing and gaming saw 32.5%. Home entertainment saw 31.7%. Across the board, the pattern held: the more a shopper can explore, the more likely they are to add to cart.

Smart Syndication insights

Our Smart Syndication service tailors content to audience preferences, boosting engagement and driving higher conversion. One in four shoppers in Australia actively engage with rich content delivered by Flixmedia. Content on Australian retailer pages earns an average dwell time of 66.3 seconds, rising to 78.0 seconds on desktop against 58.8 seconds on mobile.

User generated content had the highest impact on conversion of any content type. If you are building content to compete in Australia, put it at the top of the list.
